Volleyball players receive more post season awards
The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) Volleyball coaches voted for the All-Division, All-MCAC, All-Region, Players of the Year, and Coaches of the Year for the 2022 season. After a sucessful 21-5 regular season which included winning the Region 13A Championship, the Wood Ducks had numerous players receive recognition.
Sophomore Simone Mortel (Vadnais Heights, MN) was selected as the the MCAC Southern Division Player of the Year. "Simone is a skilled player, but what makes her special is her ability to take over a match with her intensity and focus", stated Head Coach Jay Kam. Mortel was also named to the 1st Team All Southern Division Team. Joining her on the 1st Team All Southern Division Team are freshmen Kiyomi Callahan (St. Paul, MN), Gabrielle Schwirtz (Plato, MN), and sophomore Emma Crandell (Forest Lake, MN). Sophomore Mackay Williams (Salmon, ID) was named to the All Southern Division 2nd team. Mortel, Crandell, Schwirtz, and Callahan were also named to the All-MCAC team. This is the second year for Crandell to be on the All-MCAC team. In addition, Crandell, Callahan, and Mortel were also named to the NJCAA All-Region 13 team.
Coach Kam was selected by his peers as the MCAC South Division Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. This is in addition to his Region 13A Coach of the Year for winning the Region 13A championship. "I am honored to be recognized as we have so many coaches in our division that deserve this. We have a very competitive division and that is because of our coaches. I am grateful to many of them as they gave me a lot of advice and encouragement when we first started the program. They have built programs that I wanted to emulate, so without them, Century would not be where we are this season." – Coach Kam
