Wood Ducks finish season as Region XIII/North Plains District Runner-Up
The Wood Ducks finish the 2024 season in the North Plains District Championship Game. They won game one but lost in a shoot out in game two. The Ducks finish the season with 36-17 record. Here are some of the highlights from the North Plains District Tournament.
Wood Ducks 7 Rochester 6
Seth Tierney hit two home runs and drove in four as Century College defeated Rochester CTC 7-6 on Thursday. The Wood Ducks built a 6-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Rochester's charge. A solo home run to right field by Porter Jorgenson put the Wood Ducks on the board in the bottom of the second. Tierney homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third for the Century. They added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on one hit. Dom Vogel hit a RBI sacrifice fly and Tierney homered to left field, scoring two. Brandon Hugo earned the win for Century College. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and five runs over six and one-third innings, striking out four and walking two. Rees Campanale took the loss for Rochester CTC. The starting pitcher went five innings, allowing six runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking none. Cole Bakkum collected the save. Jake Schmidt pitched one and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball in relief. The southpaw surrendered one hit, striking out one and walking none. The Ducks amassed nine hits in the game. Joe Hansen and Tierney each collected two hits.
St. Cloud Tech 15 Wood Ducks 8
The Wood Ducks fell to SCTCC Cyclones 15-8. The Ducks collected 13 hits and SCTCC Cyclones had 17 in the high-scoring affair. The Cyclones got on the board in the first inning after Alejandro Diaz singled, scoring two runs. Century tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to a fielder's choice by Joe Hansen, and a single by Jack Huberty. SCTCC Cyclones flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits to take a 7-2 lead. The Wood Ducks took the lead, 8-7, in the bottom of the fourth thanks to home runs by Cole Bakkum, and Tierney. The Cyclones took the lead in the top of the sixth inning after Elian Mezquita singled, and Will VanBeck singled, each scoring one run. Trent Wendlandt earned the win for SCTCC Cyclones. Bakkum pitched three innings in relief for the Wood Ducks. He surrendered three hits and four runs (two earned) while, striking out five and walking one. Mason McGowan took the loss for the Wood Ducks. The right-handed pitcher went one inning, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one. Wes Nelson began the game for the Wood Ducks. He allowed three hits and two runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking three. Carson Reeve started the game for SCTCC Cyclones. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and eight runs (seven earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out two and walking two. Century College piled up 13 hits in the game. Dom Vogel, Chris Brey, Bakkum, Huberty, and Seth Nelson each collected two hits. Bakkum and Tierney each drove in three runs.

Seth Tierney drove in six runs on two hits to lead the Ducks past North Dakota School of Science 10-0. Tierney hit a home run to left field in the first scoring three, singled in the fourth scoring two, and walked in the fifth scoring one. The Wood Ducks jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Dom Vogel singled, scoring a run, and Tierney homered to left field, scoring three runs. Joey Koch earned the win for the Ducks. He allowed three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Taft took the loss for North Dakota School of Science. The Wood Ducks collected 12 hits in the game. Cole Bakkum and Caden Besemer each collected three hits for Century College.
Wood Ducks 9 St. Cloud Tech 6
Century College Wood Ducks rallied to defeat SCTCC Cyclones 9-6 in game one of the North Plains District Championship. The Wood Ducks trailed by as many as four runs during the game. The Wood Ducks flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring eight runs on six hits to take a 9-4 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to center field by Porter Jorgenson that drove in three. Kirill Landry earned the win for Century. The righty gave up 11 hits and six runs (four earned) over eight and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking two. Brandon Hugo collected the save. The Wood Ducks collected nine hits in the game. Jorgenson and Dom Vogel each collected two hits for Century. Jorgenson went 2-for-4 at the plate as they led the team with three runs batted in.
St. Cloud Tech 24 Wood Ducks 22
Dom Vogel drove in five on two hits, but Century College Wood Ducks fell to SCTCC Cyclones 24-22 in the North Plains District Championship. The Wood Ducks collected 25 hits and SCTCC Cyclones had 22 in the high-scoring affair. SCTCC Cyclones were the first to get on the board in the first when Brock Woitalla hit a solo home run to left field. Vogel singled, which helped the Wood Ducks tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second, Century broke up the tie when Cole Bakkum drew a walk, scoring a run. Then a single by Adrian Warcken followed to extend the lead to 3-1. SCTCC Cyclones took the lead, 5-3, in the top of the third thanks to singles by Jake Ince, Elian Mezquita, Reese Berberich, and Hayden The Wood Ducks jumped into the lead in the bottom of the third when Joe Hansen doubled, scoring two, and Caden Besemer singled, scoring one. SCTCC Cyclones flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring nine runs on five hits to take a 14-6 lead. SCTCC Cyclones scored nine runs on eight hits in the top of the sixth inning. The Wood Ducks scored 11 runs on nine hits in the bottom of the ninth inning. Bakkum singled, scoring a run, Vogel hit a grand slam to right field, Jack Huberty singled, scoring a run, Hansen singled, scoring a run, Chris Brey singled, scoring a run, Hank Munson doubled, scoring two, and a passed ball scored a run. The Ducks did get the winning run to the plate in the ninth but were unable to finish the comeback. Mason McGowan took the loss, he went two-thirds of an inning, giving up six runs on five hits, striking out one and walking two. The Wood Ducks accumulated 25 hits in the game. Number nine hitter, Besemer, showed the depth of the Wood Ducks' lineup, by leading them with five hits in six at bats. Porter Jorgenson, Brey, Bakkum, Huberty, and Hansen each collected multiple hits. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing 12 walks for the game. Century collected four stolen bases for the game.
